If they require more access or access another time - they have to contact you to request it and you send them a new time restricted link with a click or two.īest solution I have come across. The link generated is random and encrypted and expires when you set it. It sends the 3rd Party Contractor a link, they click it and log in and baddababing baddaboom they have remote access for the time specified.

But, the best feature I like, and is a clear winner in this particular case is - I can issue a 'Guest Pass' to a vendor, for 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours or 24 hours to a particular machine. I have been a happy user of ScreenConnect - now Connectwise Control ever since the great Logmein debacle where they jacked their rates up and everyone abandoned them waaaaaay back 'in the day' ) My plan is Grandfathered still from way back then so I still get a pretty good deal, but their prices are competitive with everyone else - plus I still self host, so its win win for me. So how do you get around this? Alright, I'll pimp my particular brand of software I use here - but go looking for your own solution if you like and look for some remote access software YOU can control access to. So put your foot down and say 'No, not going to happen, like at all'. Hell, half the time I have to delve through their logs why their software 'doesn't just work like it did with other clients'.

The entire network is MY responsibility and MY job if one of these clueless pelicans screws something up, and I say 'Clueless Pelicans' because 98% of them know only about their own software and have no idea about the wider intricacies of SQL, AD, networks and firewalls and a bunch of other things we deal with every day in our environments. I tell them straight out - 'Not a chance'.

I have had this exact same issue a number of times in the past - a 3rd party software vendor demanding remote access to certain systems and servers with their brand of remote access software.
